Footsteps trialing another. The original pair held no grace, desperately tumbling and tripping just to gain ground. Their lead–if there ever was any– was quickly deteriorating. With a glance over the shoulder that reassured their assumption, their grasp on the ground was disrupted by a simple misplaced stone.

The beginning of the chase pushed itself into mind during the fall. At one point they had been innocently exploring the scenery near an old shack in a woods clearing. Now, some unprovoked creature had forced them into a sprint for freedom that high school track could have never prepared them for. Lungs burning and legs aching, a last thought of, “Oh f-“ registered itself in their mind as their battle with gravity came to an end and their right temple met with a very solid boulder.
